PSNH SCM: Wolfgang Ertl
My academic background is in the field of literature, but I have also had a lifelong interest in the history and theory of art and started painting in my youth in Germany, always equally drawn to abstract compositions and representational landscapes.
A professor emeritus at the University of Iowa, I moved to New England in 2005 and now reside in Hampton, NH. My paintings have been exhibited in solo and small group shows, and I have participated in various juried exhibitions in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
In recent years I have turned to more or less representational imagined and real landscapes, inspired by the seacoast of New England, Florida, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and travels in Europe. Pastel has been my favorite medium for years, but I also work with oil and acrylics.
